Classic t-shirt Sep 15, 2007
By Usni A t-shirt seems so simple but I feel like American Apparel is the only one who gets them right. I prefer a simple look, no logos, graphics, designer labels. Just give me a solid colored shirt that's comfortable to wear. AA did and I'm very happy.

Great shirt but watch the shipping May 03, 2005
By Gal Josefsberg The shirt is great and was delivered ahead of schedule. Fits well, durable and feels great. Price was excellent but keep in mind that there is about a 7 dollar shipping charge (at least to CA). Even with that charge the shirt is worth it though, especially if you put in orders for multiple shirts at a time, which I just did.

Great shirt Jun 13, 2006
By Pistachio Disguisey For the price, this is a great shirt. It's tailored perfectly for someone with medium build who likes shirts that hug but don't constrict. They run small, but not so much that a large won't fit someone who normally wears tha size. The material is a little thin and the shipping is high, but neither would dissuade me from purchasing several more of these. Plus the color selection is great.

FORMER 5 STAR T-SHIRT CUTS CORNERS TO 1 STAR QUALITY Jan 23, 2012
By charlesn As a long time fan and wearer of American Apparel t-shirts, I have admired their quality--and the company that makes them--for years. I thought the fabric, the workmanship and the fit were the best on the market. Plus the shirts retained their great look and fit through countless cycles in the washer and dryer, with almost no shrinkage. Perhaps best of all, they were proudly made in the USA, in Downtown LA as the tag said, at a time when nearly all the clothing we wear is made in China. Here was a company that was proving how to keep manufacturing jobs in America by making the best product possible.
At least it was until now.
My recent purchase of new black jersey cotton t-shirts was a huge disappointment. (Keep in mind that I bought them directly from AA's own website, so no chance of getting counterfeit merchandise.) First thing I noticed out of the package was that the fabric felt a bit thinner and stretchier than I was accustomed to it feeling when new. Even the fabric of my old black t-shirts felt a little more substantial, despite their age and wear. Then I saw that the new shirts had a tube-type body construction instead of the side seams along the body of my old shirts. Side seam construction retains the shape and fit of a t-shirt better over time when compared to the cheaper tube-style design. But at this point, the shirts still had that great American Apparel fit, so I started wearing them.
Within a couple of washings, I noticed signifcant shrinkage, which I've never experienced with an AA t-shirt. Then came the real surprise: the seams under the arms started ripping open. Again, I've never had this happen before. So I examined the seams in both the new and old t-shirts and found the sewing in the new ones to look sloppy and unfinished with fewer actual stitches per inch of seam. The differences were not subtle.
Now, less than 8 weeks after buying these shirts, they have shrunk to the point of almost being unwearable and the underarm seams have ripped open in 4 of 7 shirts. (You can also see the seams starting to give in the remaining 3.) My plan now is to request a refund for the shirts from AA and write the President of the company to ask about this severe cutback in quality. I'll report his response here in a future update.

Great shirts Nov 15, 2008
By Thaddeus Entwhistle Great shirts. I had previously bought some t-shirts at the Gap, but the material was too thin and they cost ~$15 a piece and had some strange large neck thing going on. These shirts fit Perfectly(use the Amazon size chart for fit), and had great colors. They shipped my four shirts in separate shipments, but still only charged me the $10.01 for shipping. Total cost for four shirts = $37.97; total cost per shirt $9.49 They also arrived before the estimated time. Great shirts, great service. I'll be getting more again when I need them.
